Not much movement in the Leader quadrant. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau and Qlik stay more or less in same spot.
Tibco and Thoughtspot move to the right and drop a bit on the Ability to Execute axis.
Looker and Microstrategy switch places in the challenger quadrant, and are joined by Domo.
SAS, SAP, Yellowfin, Oracle and Sisense more or less stay put in the Visionary quadrant, and IBM in the Niche Player quadrant.
AWS enters the quadrant as a Niche player with it's Quicksight offering. We are curious to see how the adoption of this tool will evolve with regard to the huge AWS install base and a very competitive pricing. The pay-per-session model for content consumers comes down to $0.30 per 30 minute session, with a maximum of $5 per user per month. A content author pays $216 per year.
Looker was acquired by Google, as you can see in the quadrant. I tested Looker myself in cooperation with Tropos.io and was specifically impressed with the code based approach. Granted, you need some coding skills to set it up, but it does allow end to end versioning, auditing and governance of all aspects of the platform, back- and front-end. We are looking forward to the integration in GCP and automated data model generation on BigQuery.
Looker leaves data in the underlying database and uses the LookML data modeling layer to apply business rules. This approach exploits the performance and scalability of the underlying database which pairs very well with, for instance, Snowflake.
Salesforce was dropped from the quadrant, probably because their efforts in Analytics and BI space is being focussed on Tableau, that was acquired by Salesforce in 2019.
Logi analytics doesn't make the cut this year.
Birst is represtened as Infor.
Tibco has announced that it wil aqcuire Information builders, but are still evaluated seperately this year.
